Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo are pleased to present the 19th annual “Boo! At The Zoo,” Saturday October 19, 2013. Lee Richardson Zoo will be closed all day October 19th for preparations. Pumpkin carving contest drop off is 10 a.m. – noon October 19 at the zoo’s Finnup Center for Conservation Education, 312 Finnup Dr. The evening includes a trick-or-treat trail with ‘spooktacular’ treat stations, creepy creature encounters with zoo docents and a journey through a ghoulish graveyard. Guests are asked to come hungry with an ogre-sized appetite, as the Safari Shoppe is selling Frankenweenies (hot dogs), Monster BBQ beef sandwiches and various beverages.
‘Boo!’ advance passes are available for $4.00 per person at El Remedio, Finnup Center, Safari Shoppe and Ward’s Garden Center starting October 1, 2013 through noon October 19, 2013. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.folrz.org until Wednesday, October 16 to ensure delivery. Advanced gate opens at 4 p.m. General admission gate is open 5 – 8:30 p.m. Gate passes are $5 per person. Members-only skeleton key passes are also available (benefit for members with a family/grandparent membership or higher level membership) and includes Sleepy Hollow Wagon Ride. Skeleton key passes are $10 each and are sold exclusively through the Friends’ office. Business or organization Treat Station locations are still available and the Friends’ office can provide a candy list that contains sustainable palm oil.
New this year, guests will also have the opportunity to visit the wizarding world of Harry Potter and purchase passage onto the Hogwarts Express. Witches and wizards are invited to travel through the Dark Forest while warding off dementors with their magic wands as the train makes its way back to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. Train passes are $5 each in addition to admission.
