Kristi Newland, DirectorThe City of Garden City announced today that Kristi Newland will serve as Director of Lee Richardson Zoo. She was hired as the General Curator of Lee Richardson Zoo in 2006. In 2007 she was promoted to General Curator/Deputy Director. She has been serving as Interim Director since March 31 when director Kathy Sexson retired.

Newland said she is excited for the new opportunity. “Lee Richardson Zoo has tremendous community support and a great staff.  The zoo has so much to offer, from a wonderful educational component to conservation and quality animal care.    It’s a perfect place for friends and families to enjoy themselves while connecting with nature.  I look forward to guiding the zoo into the future, which will of course include continuing the great things people have come to know and love about the zoo.  It’s quite an honor to be part of such a community treasure,”   she said.

City Manager Matt Allen said the City is glad to have Newland in the new role. “Lee Richardson Zoo is an integral part of the Garden City experience, whether you live here or visit,” he said. “Kristi has been a leader from within the organization since she joined us 8 years ago.  We’re thrilled to have Kristi assume these new responsibilities and are confident she will continue the lineage of Lee Richardson Zoo directors.”
