World Giraffe Day

baby giraffeThe Lee Richardson Zoo will be bringing attention to our tallest animals on Wednesday June 21st from 4pm until 6pm.  June 21st is World Giraffe Day.  This date was chosen as it is the longest day of the year for the animal with the longest neck.

Cleo the giraffeFrom 4pm until 6pm you can learn about our long necked friends at our informational cart and also enjoy some fun giraffe crafts. At 4:30pm you can ask our giraffes’ caretakers questions. Immediately after the talk you can meet one of our giraffes up close during our Giraffe Encounters.

Lee Richardson Zoo has two giraffes. Juani and Cleo. In the future we hope Juani and Cleo have future calves.

Giraffe Conservation FoundationGiraffes in the wild are having some troubles and it is our hope to help these wonderful creatures for future generations.  Since 2000 the giraffe populations in the wild have dropped over 40%.  Through organizations such as the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) you can help fund projects to protect threatened species.

Join us to stick our necks out for giraffes on June 21st.
