Lee Richardson Zoo is currently looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and motivated individual to join the animal department staff.
Animal keeper II responsibilities include training and supervising animal keeper I staff as well as providing animal care, animal observations, animal training, enrichment, monitoring animal health, maintaining cleanliness of animal areas, and minor exhibit modification. Coordinate with senior staff on animal training programs to facilitate husbandry behaviors.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general maintenance of grounds and public areas, formal and informal presentations for the public, and assisting with research and conservation initiatives.
Proven leadership skills, good communication and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and work well alone or with others in a team environment are a must.
Applicants should have a four year degree in a biology related field with at least two years of full-time, paid experience working with animals in an AZA accredited facility; or an Associate degree in one of the life sciences with at least five years full-time, paid experience working with animals in an accredited institution; or 7 years paid experience working with animals at an accredited institution. The ability to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors in all conditions is required. Experience with operant conditioning is a plus. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Must be able to obtain a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Starting salary is $16.12 per hour with generous health benefits package and retirement plan
