AMAZON MILK FROG

SCIENTIFIC NAME:  Trachycephalus resinifictrix

HABITAT: This species is found in the tropical rainforests of Colombia, Equador, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana and French Guyana, and Brazil.

CONSERVATION STATUS:   Least Concern

FUN FACT:  They are also called “sapo canoeiro” which means “boatman frog”, due to their croak sounding like oars tapping the side of a canoe.

DIET: Insects and small vertebrates.

DESCRIPTION:

These amphibians are around 2-4 inches long, full grown; they are identifiable by their bold brown and white stripes and blue toes. Sometimes referred to as the Mission Golden-Eyed Tree frogs due to their cross-like marking on their eyes.

The name milk frog comes from their milky white (poisonous) secretions that are released from the frog when threatened.
